Yamaha MT-07 Paddock Stand, Easy DIY Project

DIY Paddock Stand Spool Adapters for a Yamaha MT-07

If you own a Yamaha MT-07, you might already know the frustration: the bike doesn’t come with paddock spool mounts. This means you’re stuck using paddock stands with L-hooks, which can feel flimsy and unstable. While aftermarket chain adjusters with integrated spools exist, they come with their limitations—they’re great for chain maintenance but won’t allow you to remove the rear wheel.

I decided to solve this problem by making my own custom paddock stand spool adapters. These adapters can be used with C-hook paddock stands and provide a sturdy and reliable solution, allowing you to safely lift the rear end of your MT-07 for both chain maintenance and wheel removal.

What I Used

  • Metal strips: These serve as the base for the adapters.
  • M10 connector nuts: To hold the spools securely.
  • Rivet nuts: For attaching the adapters to the swingarm.

The Build Process

  1. Designing the Adapters
I started by cutting the metal strips to the appropriate length. These strips were drilled for mounting onto the swingarm with M6 bolts. The design ensures a snug and secure fit without compromising the bike’s integrity.

  2. Installing Rivet Nuts
To attach the adapters to the swingarm, I used rivet nuts. These create strong threaded anchor points without needing to weld.

  3. Mounting the Adapters
The metal strips were bolted onto the swingarm using the rivet nuts. I ensured everything was aligned perfectly to avoid any issues when lifting the bike with a paddock stand.

  4. Testing
With the adapters installed, I mounted the paddock stand and gave it a try. The result? A rock-solid setup that feels way more stable than the L-hooks and allows complete access to the rear wheel for removal or maintenance.

Why Go DIY?

While there are commercially available options, most are either too limited in function or overly expensive. Building these adapters yourself is not only cost-effective but also ensures you get a solution tailored to your needs. Plus, there’s something satisfying about creating a custom piece for your bike.

Final Thoughts

With these DIY spool adapters, my MT-07 is now much easier to work on. Whether it’s lubing the chain, changing the tire, or giving the rear wheel a deep clean, this simple mod has made a world of difference. If you’re tired of unstable paddock stands and limited aftermarket options, I highly recommend trying this project.
